Canvass Results, Fredericksburg Board of Elections
Created by tseaver. Last modified 2005-11-10 05:27:51.
The canvass went very long, with a fair amount of messy detail:
- Twenty voters more are recorded in the poll book for Ward 4, Precinct 401, than were actually tallied. This can't be rectified without an order from the State Board of Elections (or a court) to open the sealed boxes for a recount.
- There was some minor discrepancy between the poll book and the machine tape for the "absentee" precinct.
- The election board voted to qualify and cast two of twelve provisional votes; the disqualifications seemed to make sense to me. A number of them thought they had moved their registrations when changing addresses with the DMV, but had not (according to the DMV audit sheets) checked the box which enabled the registration change. We might ought to agitate for making the registration change enabled by default (if it isn't already).
Overall results in the city were very close to last night's published numbers:
- Kaine 2611, Kilgore 1561, Potts 118, write-ins 4; Kaine got 60.8% of the 4283 ballots counted in that race (5 overcounted, 35 undercounted).
- Byrne 2456, Bolling 1745, write-ins 17. Byrne got 58.2% of the 4218 votes counted in that race (2 overcounted, 114 undercounted).
- Deeds 2435, McDonnell 1772, write-ins 8. Deeds got 57.8% of the 4215 votes counted in that race (0 overcouted, 119 undercounted).
Note that "undercount" means the voter did not vote in the race, while "overcount" means the voter voted for more than one candidate.
